: DJ guide: DJ styles

Well, my main influences have come from a variety of underground Trance and Hardhouse clubs, so that's the type of Djing I know about, and so that's what this guide is aimed at.  Other types of DJing I have had experiences of (but haven't tried!) are:

Mobile Disco's

....those ones with the light show panels, usually called 'Someone-or-other's Roadshow', often found in pubs or at wedding receptions, where the DJ tells you what the tracks are as he's fading from one to the other "and now here's one for all those luverly ladies out there, that one hit wonder from the 70's...."

Nightclub DJ's

...the sort you'll find in somewhere called "Smitzies – the Hottest Nightspot in Town" which close at 2 or 3am.  They tend to talk over mixes (you can never understand a word they're saying), have a 'fun' section in the middle of the evening with lots of 'old-faves', and end the night with those smoochy numbers....

Not intending to knock these types of DJing, they each require their own (different) skill sets, and this guide isn't about them – or any of that flashy scratching stuff either – I can't do that yet!....if you are interested in this, have a look at the excellent Recess' DJing Hints and Tips pages.
