topview_s.jpgYou'll need a firm flat space to put your decks and mixer on which is close enough to your amp to be able to connect the mixer up.  Arrangements vary - the most common are to have the mixer either between the decks, or in front of them (my mixer's quite wide, so I put it in front).  Whatever you do, you need to be able to reach either of the decks with one hand while the other hand's playing with the mixer controls.  Also, if you like to dance around while you're mixing, it helps to have the decks somewhere around waist height so you don't do your back in hunching over the things.

This is probably obvious to everyone else except me, but when I first got my setup, I put the slipmats on top of the rubber mats that came on the turntables.  This is not a good idea, as slipmats are meant to allow you to stop or push and pull your records while the platter keeps turning, blisfully ignorant of the flashy manouvering you're doing to the reocrd above.  Those rubber mats are designed to grip whatever's placed on them like there's no tomorrow, so take the rubber mats off and put your slipmats straight on the deck plate!
